Poker is a card game that’s played in different forms throughout the world. Whether you’re at home, in a poker club, or playing online, the basics of the game are essentially the same.

The game begins with an ante (a fixed amount of money in each hand that must be placed before the cards are dealt). Players then make their first bets into a pot, and betting rounds continue until all players have called or folded.

Betting is done in clockwise order, with each player taking a turn to make bets. Once betting is complete, the highest hand wins.

Depending on the rules, some players must place an initial amount of money into the pot before the cards are dealt. These are called forced bets.
